Antioxidant activity of saponins isolated from ivy: alpha-hederin, hederasaponin-C, hederacolchiside-E and hederacolchiside-F.

The aim of this study was to determine the antioxidant effect of saponins isolated from English Ivy Hedera colchica (English ivy) and Hedera colchica (Persian ivy). The antioxidant activities of following saponins were measured: alpha-hederin, hederasaponin-C, hederacolchisides-E and hederacolchisides-F. Different methods were used to determine the antioxidant activity. The saponins alpha-hederin, hederasaponin-C, hederacolchisides-E and hederacolchisides-F showed strong total antioxidant activities.
