Genistein, EGCG and capsaicin inhibit adipocyte differentiation process via activating AMP-activated protein kinase.

Genistein is known to have therapeutic effects on conditions such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanism by which the phytochemicals genistein, EGCG, and capsaicin can influence obesity. AMP-activated kinase is responsible for the inhibition of adipogenesis and is a possible target molecule of anti-obesity. They found that genistein, EGCG, and capsaicin activated AMP-activated kinase.
